Environmental Center
The natural beauty of The Cascades extends far beyond our golf course and residential community, through our 500 hilly acres, much of it heavily wooded. Spring-fed streams and diverse terrain make The Cascades a haven for plant and animal life in East Texas. More than 50 different species of trees, including 100-year-old oaks, and hundreds of animal species, from 100-pound turtles to great blue herons, are at home at The Cascades’ luxury lakefront golf and residential community.
To preserve the natural beauty that surrounds us, The Cascades has established The Cascades Center for Environmental Education. A self-guided nature trail system, which runs for 10 miles within our scenic landscape, features habitat identification signage for the education and enjoyment of visitors.
These trails, and the natural wonders they contain, will be conserved in perpetuity for the enjoyment of our residents.
Robert S. Bradford, Ph.D., a science professor at All Saints Episcopal School, has called The Cascades an “ecological wonder.” As our Biodiversity Consultant, he has catalogued the plant and animal species present in our community and made it available for download.
